This Is What 2-Year-Old Fast Food Looks Like
What’s the secret to McDonald’s fries? They’re non-perishable, according to a Facebook photo posted by Illinois’ LiveWell Centers earlier this month. The photo shows four different brands of fast food that were purchased two years ago last Sunday, and according to LiveWell, left out in the open to decay, or…not.
Posted along with the photo, LiveWell’s advice is to stay away from food that even bugs won’t eat:
Our fast “food” display is now 2 years old. The word food is questionable, since the bread-like and meat-like substances have not molded or spoiled in any way. Bugs won’t even bother with it. Please think twice about giving this to your kids. You have a choice, but they don’t. We truly are what we eat. There are, of course, numerous other arguments against eating fast food—many of them more scientific than this—but this photo is a good reminder that, if our food doesn’t decay in open air over the course of two years, just imagine what happens in your stomach when you eat it.
Update: If you’re confused by these photos, think they’re fake, or otherwise undeterred from fast food, check out our interview with Dr. Frank Lipman about what they really mean for our health and diet.
